Installment 3: The N.O. F.E.A.R. Life F is for Fight For What You Want

 

 

Installment Three: Living the N.O. F.E.A.R. Life blog series. I will post a new installment each month through August when the 2017 NO FEAR Ladies Conference will take place.

 

N.O. F.E.A.R. is an acronym for a life concept that I created back in August 2014, just before my first NO FEAR Ladies Conference and one I try my best to live by.

 

The F in N.O. F.E.A.R. stands for "Fight for what you want." 

 

Many are familiar with the "Fight or Flight" response.  According to online resource About Health (and referenced in my book Bold, Brave and Courageous):

 

The fight-or-flight response, also known as the acute stress response, refers to a physiological reaction that occurs in the presence of something that is terrifying, either mentally or physically. The response is triggered by the release of hormones that prepare your body to either stay and deal with a threat or to run away to safety...This results in an increase in heart rate, blood pressure and breathing rate. After the threat is gone, it takes between 20 to 60 minutes for the body to return to [normal] (Cherry, 2016).

 

To put it in different terms, we have all seen movies where a woman is walking or jogging in the woods by herself at night, she hears noises or footsteps behind her and must decide what to do in a split second. Does she run or does she stay and try to fight off whatever is coming her way.

 

While the physical examples of fight or flight moments seem easy to relate to and we all think the answer is to run, there are situations in life where we also face the decision to fight or take flight. While frequently people give up too easily and automatically choose to run from adversity, in many of these cases, it makes more sense to "fight."

 

Anything worth having is worth fighting for. It is the life challenges we face that build our character and help us better appreciate the fruits of our labor (i.e. the starting position on a sports team, a management position on the job, renewed love and affection from a wayward spouse, etc).

 

I have been a fighter since the very beginning, entering this world at a tiny one pound and fourteen ounces and only twelve inches long (my mother was just five months and twenty-two days pregnant). I fought my way into this world and I have no plan to stop fighting now.
