It's been an honor to have Wyjuana Montgomery as our equity and inclusion guest speaker, mentor, thought partner and above all friend. Last year we forged a partnership in celebration of Black History Month. Wyjuana came to share her book, The Bold the Brave and Courageous with our 4th-8th grade students. By the end of the second day on our campus she had reached celebrity status. This year our students and community were thrilled to have her return, this year also engaging with our high school parents. One parent remarked, "thank you for sharing Wyjuana with us" following her Fireside discussion. Wyjuana has a gift of making everyone feel included, seen and willing to engage in vulnerable conversations. She elevates the way we all treat each other through her sharing of stories, norming of feelings and unparalleled kindness.
